Certain employees may be eligible to receive additional money in their paycheck each week by taking advantage of the government’s Earned Income Credit (EIC). The EIC is a credit available to individuals with a low earned income. It reduces the tax one owes and may give you a refund even if you do not owe any tax. To qualify, employees must have at least one qualifying child, expect that their earned income is less than $30,338 ($31,338 if filing a joint return) and expect to claim EIC in 2004. Employees who believe they qualify must complete a Form W-5, which can be found in Human Resources, Payroll or via the Internet at www.irs.gov. Questions should be directed to your tax consultant.
