December’s service hero, Juana Benavides, brings a charismatic personality to the staff and patients that she serves as a unit assistant on Tower 5A, as she carries out her commitment to making patient rooms gleam.
Upon starting her day, Benavides visits each room making sure she doesn’t disturb the patient and confirms a timeframe in which it would be convenient to clean the room.
“Juanna is meticulous in her technique, ensuring the cleanliness of the room meets both BWH and patient standards. She is focused not only on the general cleaning, but also on the little details that make a difference in the patient’s stay,” said Kathleen Gordon, RN, director, Patient/Family Relations.
Realizing how important her job is to the patients she serves, Benavides said, “These patients are very sick. It is important that I clean everything the right way and make their surroundings acceptable.”
Staff are genuinely happy to see Benavides and vice versa. “Juanna greets everyone when they arrive on the unit, and some even stop to speak with her in Spanish, her native language,” said Gordon. “Benavides’ friendly manner and careful attention to detail resonates with all whom she encounters on a daily basis.”
