The NICU needs to renovate its family rooms. Emergency Medicine needs to buy new medical equipment. And with gas prices soaring, you need to get behind the wheel of a fuel-efficient car. Thanks to MAFCU and the Friends of BWH, you can help yourself, the NICU and Emergency Medicine by entering the raffle to win a 2005 Honda Accord Hybrid.
The NICU will use its portion of raffle proceeds to renovate family rooms as part of an endeavor to become more family oriented. “This is great because we use the family rooms frequently,” Michele Phillips, NICU RN, above right, said. The rooms host overnight stays for parents, family meetings and difficult conversations between staff and family. “We also use them for teaching,” said Phillips. “If parents are about to take home a child who needs oxygen or other equipment, for example, they can stay overnight in the family room and get used to the equipment.”
Some of the family rooms haven't been renovated in more than 10 years, and the pullout beds can be uncomfortable, Phillips said. “Painting, buying a new bed and other enhancements will create a more soothing space for families.”
Emergency Medicine plans to buy equipment for the ED Code Team with money raised through the raffle. “The raffle will help us organize and improve our swift response to medical emergencies in public areas of the hospital,” Steve Palmer, RN, above left, said. “We're always striving to improve our system.”
The three-person code team needs a dedicated defibrillator, a portable suction machine and basic resuscitation equipment, Palmer said. “We're missing some big-ticket items,” he said.
Raffle tickets are $30 each or two for $50 at the Gift Shop and MAFCU's office at 221 Longwood Ave. The drawing is Nov. 17. Visit www.medareafcu.org for more information.
