Talk about patient satisfaction. Paul Leech, a grateful patient of 5A Hematology Oncology, took 30 of the pod's staff on a trip to an August Red Sox game, complete with a private tour of Fenway and free food and drinks at Game On Café, not to mention an impromptu meeting with Red Sox centerfielder Johnny Damon (shown above with Amy Potter, RN).
Leech's kind gesture touched the staff and reinforced the fact that every employee has the power to affect a patient's experience at BWH.
“The beautiful part is Paul took everyone,” said Eileen Molina, nurse manager of 5AB. Nurses, the unit secretary and patient care assistants were among those invited and able to attend.
Leech, the chief operating officer international of Dunkin Brands, was a patient on the floor for a month. The staff of 5A became like family, Leech's wife Helen told Molina. During the stay, Nancy Murphy, RN, put Leech and his wife at ease by explaining the need for procedures and equipment.
“Everyone felt great as they do anytime a patient says thank you. Whether it's spoken, written on a card, expressed with a box of chocolates or a grand gesture like this one, it means so much to us,” Molina said.
