As a means of facilitating communication and prompting discussion about important critical care issues, Dr. Selwyn Rogers and Mary Pennington, RN, critical care program coordinator, have created a monthly journal club for all critical care staff.
“This is a grassroots effort to prompt a dialogue among nurses, physicians and other critical care staff around quality improvement in the ICUs,” said Rogers.
The club's first roundtable will revolve around the research study Silence Kills: The Seven Crucial Conversations for Health Care.
“Frequently, after a research study is published, the evidence-based changes are slow to be incorporated into everyday practice,” said Pennington. “One way to implement practice changes is to provide a forum for discussing the research with the goal of reaching a consensus regarding best practices.“
The Critical Care Journal Club will debut on Sept. 8 from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. in the Anesthesia Conference Room. To join, e-mail Pennington at mpennington@partners.org
