Outpatient Pharmacy Volunteer Michael Cardona, pictured below, raised $10,700 for Project Bread's 2005 Walk for Hunger, making a grand total of $271,000 over the past 28 years. A large portion of the donations Cardona collects comes from his generous BWH family, to whom he expresses his gratitude.
Walking 20 miles is no easy feat for Cardona, whose cerebral palsy requires him to wear leg braces. In recent years, he's taken to riding half the course in his wheelchair, but has never failed to cross the finish line.
“I started walking because I saw a lot of people who were hungry and it shouldn't be like that,” said the 43-year BWHer of his motivation for the walk.
