Brigham and Women’s has expanded its services at 850 Boylston. This expansion is part of an overall plan to provide additional clinical services to the BWH community in such areas as women’s health primary and secondary care, imaging, laboratory, rehabilitation, pain management and women’s musculoskeletal services. Endoscopy and infusion services opened this week in the new Infusion Center at 850 Boylston. This second floor location, which includes four endoscopy procedure rooms and four infusion chairs, offers convenient options for patients. Valet parking and nearby elevators mean easy access coupled with the potential for making same-day appointments with other practices in the growing 850 Boylston clinic. David Carr-Locke, MD, director of endoscopy commented, “The 850 Boylston site offers the same level of care as our main campus, but in a location we think will appeal to some of our suburban patients.” The 850 site also features state-of-the-art equipment and a live video link enabling real-time consultation with senior staff at the main hospital. According to Carr-Locke, the new endoscopy location will focus on performing colonoscopies screening for colon cancer. This is a growing part of the BWH practice representing more than half of all endoscopy patients. Four infusion chairs have also recently opened at 850 Boylston. According to Brenda Griffin RN, nurse manager, “we are able to schedule patients very efficiently for infusion, even providing immediate, urgent treatments.” The new site features experienced nursing staff and on-site physician coverage and provides patient amenities such as individual TVs and complimentary refreshments. The new services at 850 Boylston are part of a continuing effort to extend the BWH quality of care into the community. Programs in women’s health, radiology and rehabilitation, as well as laboratory and support services are scheduled to open in 2005 and 2006.
