Newly Renamed Centers for Preoperative Evaluation
The Pre-Surgical Service Excellence Project, one of the four 2003 Service Excellence projects at BWH, continues to focus on developing a uniform approach to pre-surgical functions throughout Brigham and Women’s/Faulkner Hospitals (BW/F). The goal is to improve efficiency and other support mechanisms for the benefit of both patients and providers.
The team, comprised of individuals from BWH and Faulkner Hospital, continues to advance several projects, including the renaming of the pre-admission testing centers at both campuses.
Through interviews with patients and providers, the team learned that patients were frequently confused by the names and corresponding acronyms associated with the ambulatory practices at each hospital—Pre-Admitting Testing Center (PATC) at BWH and Pre-Admitting Testing (PAT) at Faulkner.
About one year ago, an internal renaming contest was held across both hospitals, with staff suggesting more than 500 names—one of which, has since been selected. Effective Monday, February 23, the PAT/C will be renamed the Roberta & Stephen R. Weiner Center for Preoperative Evaluation at BWH and the Center for Preoperative Evaluation at Faulkner.
With the renaming as just one of many project components underway, the team is hard at work developing a new Care Model in both Centers for Preoperative Evaluation, a Care Plan to clearly communicate the patients’ information between the surgeons’ offices and the Centers for Preoperative Evaluation, and a “5 Steps to Surgery” patient journey map to help familiarize patients with the surgery process. Look for additional updates on the Pre-Surgical and other Service Excellence projects in future issues of BWH Bulletin.
