Gibbons Joins BWH Nursing Leadership
BWH Department of Nursing in May welcomed Trish Gibbons, DNSc, RN, as the hospital’s new associate chief nursing officer and executive director of the Center for Nursing Excellence. Gibbons brings to BWH a distinguished track record in health care.
“Trish brings a wealth of nursing and health care experience to BWH as an inspirational, experienced leader and a dynamic teacher,” Mairead Hickey, PhD, RN, chief nursing officer, and senior vice president of Patient Care Services, said. “During her many years in health care, she has distinguished herself as a visionary leader with a passion for superior patient care.”
As associate chief nursing officer and executive director of BWH’s Center for Nursing Excellence, Gibbons will play a key role in implementing and advancing the Department of Nursing’s vision of excellent care for patients and their families with the very best nursing staff in the safest environment.
Gibbons will help expand BWH’s collaboration and partnerships with schools of nursing, enhancing opportunities for nursing staff to serve as mentors, faculty, researchers and advisors. With Gibbons’ leadership, Nursing will develop a program to engage clinical staff participation in nursing research and evidence-based practice activities.
“I am thrilled to be joining BWH and Mairead’s leadership team to advance nursing knowledge through evidence-based care, academic relationships and clinical innovation,” Gibbons said.
Gibbons earned her bachelor of science in Nursing from Boston College and went on to earn a master’s degree and a doctorate in nursing administration from Boston University.
She has held leadership posts at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Yale-New Haven Hospital, Visiting Nurse Service of Southern Maine and most recently Massachusetts General Hospital.
