BWH Creates New Ethics Center
Building on BWH's commitment to address the many ethical issues related to modern medicine, the hospital has created a Center for Bioethics to be developed over the next several years. Lisa Soleymani Lehmann, MD, PhD will serve as director, providing strategic leadership and oversight of the center. The center will focus on further developing the ethics consultation service, ethics education for staff, and over time will broaden its scope to include research and a post doctoral training program in clinical ethics.
Lehmann practices in Brigham Internal Medicine Associates (BIMA) and is a member of the Division of General Medicine and Primary Care at BWH and the Division of Medical Ethics at Harvard Medical School. She has established a well-recognized research program in bioethics, has been a longstanding member of BWH's Ethics Committee, the Partners Institutional Review Board, and has served on the BWH Ethics Consultation Service. BWH's Ethics Service has become a vital resource to the BWH community in caring for patients, their families, and providing education for employees and staff.
BWH has gained from the support and guidance of Martha Jurchak, RN, PhD, who will assume the position of BWH Ethics Service director.
