Voices in Action Offers More Than Well-Deserved Recognition
Voices in Action, a new program that replaces a former Connors Center recognition program Caught in the Act, incorporates all interested staff and doctors.
“It's more than a recognition program now,” said Maggie Hickey, RN, nurse manager, Labor, Delivery and Recovery, who coordinates the program with Rachel Hall and Paula Gillette, RN, director, Connors Center.
Now, the monthly program features several components, including recognition for a job well done, a raffle, education and nurse narratives. Recent programs have included nurses reading their narratives and instruction on hand massage from Yolanda Harmuth. One program, which offered CEU credits to attendees, focused on Kangaroo Care, also called “skin-to-skin care,” which teaches mothers a way to hold their infants.
“The point is to get everyone together and highlight the many positive things carried out each day and give nurses something to take away from the program,” said Hickey. “We've had a good crowd at each program and we feel good about what we're offering.”
Moving forward, the Voices in Action team is working to schedule programs that the night shift can attend.
