New Web-based Safety Reporting System Coming Soon
After much research and piloting various products, BWH has selected its preferred web-based reporting system product from RL Solutions. This product fits BWH needs and has been accepted as the product of choice for many Partners HealthCare affiliates.
The new system will provide an all-inclusive platform to report, trend, and track safety-related events, and staff will have the ability to see trends occurring in their areas to further facilitate improvement efforts.
Beginning in April, BWH is implementing this innovative system to replace the BICS reporting system. The new reporting system offers BWH several improvements over BICS. The web-based reporting system takes only a few minutes for the reporter to accurately complete a report. Also, the reporter can save a partially completed report if he or she is interrupted. Furthermore, the system encourages and supports near miss reporting. Near miss events are a rich source of information for systems improvements.
Educational sessions will be offered throughout March to get clinicians accustomed to the new system. Look for the schedule of training sessions to be posted shortly. Physicians, nurses and pharmacists are all encouraged to report safety-related events or near misses with this new system.
In addition, BWH has also instituted a new adverse event reporting policy that supports staff, who bring events to light for improvement opportunities. The policy can be found on-line by accessing Guidelines/Handbook/ Medical-Legal Policies/ 5-18 Adverse Event Reporting Policy in BICS.
Questions or concerns with the new system should be directed to Tejal Gandhi, MD, director, Patient Safety; Janet Barnes, RN. JD, director, Risk Management; or Erin Graydon-Baker, RRT, manager, Patient Safety.
