It’s an Honor
In Recognition of the excellence in nursing at Brigham and Women’s Hospital
On the evening of May 1, hundreds of BWH nurses traded in their scrubs for dresses and suits, and instead of dining at the Cafeteria or bringing a brown bag meal, they enjoyed cocktails and dinner at the Westin in Waltham. Such transformations took place as BWH nurses celebrated their profession and their accomplishments over the last year at the fifth annual Nursing Recognition Event.
The celebratory evening began with a cocktail reception. This was followed by a presentation of remarks from hospital leadership, including Chief Nursing Officer Nancy Kruger, DNSc, RN. “Every year is a momentous year for the nursing profession, but 2002 brings the risk and promise of new spirit, innovation and collegiality. We have created an exceptional environment for health care providers and together we can only make it better in the year to come,” said Kruger.
The audience of nurses was also treated to a viewing of a video focusing on the quality care delivered by BWH Nursing. The theme of this year’s video was “Bridging the Generations.”
Also recognized at the May 1 nursing event were this year’s Mary S. Fay Nursing Enrichment Awardees. As the 2002 recipients, Lori Stevens, RN and Joan Eilers, RN, ADN, will have the opportunity to observe and experience how compassionate care is defined and delivered in another setting. Recipients are able to use the awards’ allotted scholarship to gain insight and then apply their gained knowledge to improving care at BWH.
“This continues to be an incredibly meaningful night. Each year we look more and more forward to this as we are delighted to hear from award recipients who are clearly able to articulate the past year’s accomplishments in BWH Nursing,” said Judy Hayes, RN, MSN, director, Professional Practice, Quality and Staff Development, and a member of the Nursing Recognition Committee that planned this year’s event.
