Awards
Martha Jurchak, PhD, RN, executive director of BWH's Ethics Service, will be honored with the 2014 Dean Rita P. Kelleher Award from the Boston College School of Nursing this spring. The award recognizes Jurchak, an alumna of the BC School of Nursing, as "a gifted nursing leader, an ethically aware scientist and a skilled and curious clinician."
Anne Alessandrini, RN, of Tower 11C, was honored with the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation's first June Breit and Jocelyn Farrar Outstanding Nurse Award. Alessandrini was nominated by a patient's family for making a difference in the lives of mesothelioma patients and for her "optimistic, determined and generous spirit." The award was presented in March at the foundation's awards dinner in Alexandria, VA.

Annie Lewis-O'Connor, PhD, NP, nursing scientist and director, Women's C.A.R.E. Clinic, co-authored "Primary Care-Based Interventions for Intimate Partner Violence: A Systematic Review," published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine in March 2014.
Elizabeth Scanlan, MSN, RNC, NP, nurse director of the Pain Management Center, and colleagues Edgar Ross, MD, Robert Jamison, PhD, and Ilene Goldberg, published "Dealing with Difficult Patients: Do Customer Service Initiatives Improve Patient Satisfaction at a Multidisciplinary Pain Center?" in the Journal of Applied Behavioral Research in October 2013.
Joan Vitello, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAHA,FAAN, associate chief nurse of Cardiovascular, Thoracic and Surgical Nursing and Clinical Services, was among authors of "The Effectiveness of a Leadership Development Program on Self-awareness in Practice," published in the Journal of Nursing Administration in March 2014.
Barbara Lakatos, DNP, PMHCNS-BC, Monique Mitchell, PMHCNS-BC, and Leslie DeLisle, PMHCNS-BC, of the Psychiatric Nurse Resource Service, authored "Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurses Contributions to Supporting Survivors and Care Givers Affected by the Boston Marathon Bombings," published as the featured article in Clinical Nurse Specialist: The Journal of Advanced Nursing Practice.
