Privacy and Information Security Policies and HealthStream Training
As you may recall, in June an external hard drive that belonged to a Brigham and Women's/Faulkner Hospital physician was lost, and BW/F sent letters to notify the 638 patients whose medical information may have been on the device.
At BW/F, protecting our patients’ information is critical to our mission. As part of our continuing efforts to protect patient information we have both strengthened current policies and developed new ones regarding privacy and information security. We have also updated our training module in HealthStream with new content on how to keep patient information secure.
These information security policies are now in effect, and everyone is expected to read, understand and comply with them. Further, all employees, temporary employees, medical and professional staff, volunteers, students and trainees are required to complete the new training module, called BWH HIPAA, in HealthStream, by Jan. 15, 2012. Training sessions are also available. While initial portions of the module include a review, the majority of the training contains important new information.
Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the new and updated policies, available on BWHPikeNotes.org. If you have any questions, please ask your manager or a member of the BWH Privacy Office staff or call 617-582-5201.
