The physicians of the Departments of Neurology, Newborn Medicine and Radiation Oncology will join the Brigham and Women’s Physicians Organization (BWPO) on January 1. The physicians in all three departments will now be members of the BWPO, and the departments will use the physician organization’s billing systems and other business processes.
The Department of Neurology is led by Martin Samuels, MD, and is comprised of 34 physicians and 22 employees. The Department of Newborn Medicine is led by Steven Ringer, MD, and is comprised of 10 physicians and 3 employees. The Department of Radiation Oncology is led by Jay Harris, MD, and is comprised of 21 physicians and 15 employees.
“We are pleased with the addition of these three departments, as they add perspective, strength and many talented physicians to the BWPO,” said Troyen Brennan, MD, president, BWPO. Brennan explained that like the other departments involved in the BWPO, Neurology, Newborn Medicine and Radiation Oncology will reap the benefits that the BWPO provides — mainly a stronger, unified voice that is critical in successful negotiations with payers and the ability to adapt to the challenges in this ever-changing health care environment.
