850 Boylston Expands Services
In early summer, endoscopy and infusion services opened at the 850 Boylston
Ambulatory Center. These events signified the beginning of a major ambulatory
expansion of the center over the next two years.
Four new endoscopy suites will provide colonoscopy screenings which account
for more than half of all BWH endoscopy services. The site also features a live
video link enabling real-time consultation with senior staff at the main campus.
The new infusion site features experienced nursing staff and on-site physician
coverage, with the capability of providing immediate, urgent treatment.
The expansion is part of the clinical strategic plan to provide additional
clinical services to the BWH community (see related story p.1). According to Mairead
Hickey, RN, PhD, vice president, Women’s and Specialty Services, “The
expanded services at 850 Boylston are part of our distributed campus strategy
where we will provide care at the right place and at the right time. The center
offers patients access to care in a convenient and state-of-the-art setting. Initial
feedback from patients has been extremely positive,” she said.
Pain service is scheduled to be added to the 850 Boylston roster in December
2004. Spring 2005 will see new primary care physicians in women’s health,
gynecology, mental health, gastroenterology, endocrinology, dermatology and cardiology.
By the end of 2006, the center will also offer imaging, and expanded orthopedic
and arthritis center services.
“Overall, our goal is to provide more options in more locations, so that
every patient receives the care they need in the most appropriate and efficient
setting,” said Hickey.
