An April heat wave hit BWH’s Radiation Oncology Department a few days earlier than the rest of Boston. On Friday, April 12, the department celebrated its 5th Annual Caribbean Day, transforming an area of L2 into a beachfront scene. Staff and employees dressed in festive, tropical clothing, hung island decorations and baked homemade goods to share with patients and their families.
Our Caribbean Day celebration is a great way to boost morale among our staff and lift the spirits of our patients and families,” said Jamie Silva, chief radiation therapist. “We actually have a handful of patients who purposely schedule their follow up appointments on Caribbean Day each year.”
The Caribbean Day festivities helped get more than 100 Radiation Oncology staff, patients, and families ready for summer fun. The celebration is such a success that the event is now being modeled in the Radiation Oncology Department at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
