BWHC leadership has been focused on ways to ensure financial stability in health care’s new economic reality. To ensure we have the resources to assess and execute on revenue-generating opportunities, a new senior vice president and chief business development officer role has been created. Steven Thompson, MBA, former chief executive officer of Johns Hopkins Medicine International and senior vice president of Johns Hopkins Medicine, began in this new role on Dec. 1.
As a member of BWHC’s executive leadership team, Thompson will work with clinicians and administrative leaders to develop and shape national and international opportunities for partnership. He has a great depth of experience in this area.
Before founding Johns Hopkins Medicine International, Thompson served in a number of leadership roles at Johns Hopkins Medicine, including vice president of Ambulatory Services, vice dean of Administration for the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and administrator for the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. He established Johns Hopkins Medicine International, which strives to build working relationships with medical centers, health ministries and investors around the world to improve quality, safety and access to advanced medical care for many populations. Under his leadership, Johns Hopkins Medicine International has developed collaborations across 20 countries working on various health care projects.
Thompson began his career in the hospital setting as a technician in an operating room, supporting surgeons and physicians in the delivery of care to patients at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He became increasingly curious about the business elements of hospital operations and returned to school to earn his master’s degree in business administration at Loyola University. He received his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Minnesota. Thompson is joined in Boston by his husband, Ron.
