BWH has recently received top recognition in rankings from Thomson Reuters and U.S. News and World Report, two organizations that recognize high-performing hospitals in the U.S. based on stringent criteria.
“It’s a testament to the commitment of our dedicated staff and employees that we are continually recognized among the nation’s best hospitals,” said Michael Gustafson, MD, MBA, senior vice president of Clinical Excellence. “We are truly dedicated to our mission of providing the highest quality health care to patients and their families, in the safest possible environment.”
Thomson Reuters
Thomson Reuters announced March 28 that BWH was named one of its 100 Top Hospitals for 2011. Thomson Reuters conducts an annual study using objective research and independent public data to recognize the best U.S. hospitals based on measures of overall organization performance, including patient care, operational efficiency and financial stability. It compares hospitals only against similar facilities in terms of size and teaching status.
Identified from nearly 3,000 U.S. hospitals, award winners demonstrate that high-quality patient outcomes can be achieved while improving efficiency.
BWH is one of six hospitals on the Thomson Reuters’ Top 100 list to also earn the Everest Award. This award honors hospitals that have both the highest current performance and the fastest trended improvement over the last five years. BWH is recognized for developing and executing strategies that continue to drive a rapid rate of improvement across such dimensions as patient satisfaction, patient safety, complication and readmission rates, and cost per case.
And, earlier this year, BWH was ranked among the top 20 institutions worldwide for Alzheimer’s research in a new report by Thomson Reuters. The ranking is based on an examination of literature on Alzheimer’s disease over the past decade.
U.S. News and World Report Best Hospitals Metro Area
BWH has been ranked second in Boston in U.S. News and World Report’s first-ever ranking of best hospitals by metropolitan area. BWH is recognized for having 12 nationally ranked specialties and one high-performing specialty.
U.S. News and World Report ranked hospitals within all 52 U.S. metropolitan areas with populations of one million or more, using existing data from 2010 and 2011 Best Hospitals. The new metro rankings were created for the patients whose care might not demand the special expertise found at a nationally ranked Best Hospital.
