Ada Gropper, left, and Camille Powe celebrate during the Internal Medicine Residency program’s welcome reception.
Fourth-year Harvard Medical School students Varsha Keelara and Shyam Tanguturi are a perfect match, and they’ll be making it official when they get married next month.
Things got even more perfect for the couple when they learned on March 17, National Match Day, that they both matched at BWH for their internships.
“Not only will we be together, but we will also be doing what we set out to do in one of the best hospitals in the world,” said Tanguturi, who, along with thousands of graduating medical school students across the country, found out last month where he will spend the next several years of his life.
The couple was among a dozen Boston-area medical school seniors who matched with BWH’s Internal Medicine Residency program. They received a warm welcome at a reception in Carrie Hall the evening of March 17.
This year, the Internal Medicine Residency program matched 72 new interns from all over world.
“Each year, we are fortunate to be able to host some of the most talented and driven new faces in medicine,” said Joel Katz, MD, director of the Internal Medicine Residency program, who welcomed the new interns along with Joseph Loscalzo, MD, PhD, chairman of the Department of Medicine. “This year is no different, as each new intern brings a set of skills that one day will improve medicine.”
