It did not take Christian Hartman, RPh, senior research pharmacist, a long time to make his mark in the Investigational Drug Service (IDS) at BWH. He evidently had a similar impact on the pharmacy industry, as he was recently named the Best Pharmacist of the Year by Drug Topics, a well-regarded, bi-monthly newsmagazine that reports on all areas of pharmacy services. “Our department is honored to have Christian as one of our employees. He is an excellent worker who goes above and beyond and this award is richly deserved,” said William Churchill, RPh, director of Pharmacy Services at BWH. The award is a tribute to the positive results he brings about through his work at BWH. It also highlights his other professional commitments as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Clinical Assistant Professor at Northeastern University, where he teaches human clinical research ethics, clinical trial design, law and health policy as well as investigative drug service. In 2000, Hartman was quickly promoted to senior research pharmacist after serving less than a year as a research pharmacist in the IDS. Prior to that, Hartman worked as a pharmacist intern for three years at BWH. In his current position, he is involved with human research trials, while working with researchers to assure proper maintenance of clinical supplies as well as the integrity of the trial design. “Having an opportunity to work with some of the leading researchers in the world has been gratifying,” said Hartman. “BWH has provided many opportunities to me as a young pharmacist that I could not have achieved elsewhere.” “BWH’s mission of education, research and patient care, has provided me with the opportunity to enjoy every aspect of my work,” said Hartman.
