BWH mourns the loss of Garry Ragbir, 61, a loving family man and long-time BWH employee, who passed away Nov. 17.
Mr. Ragbir worked in Materials Management for 20 years, most recently on the morning shift performing daily medical and surgical product assessments on Tower inpatient floors.
“It’s a huge loss for our department. Not only was he one of the most reliable people I have ever met, he was also someone who would go the extra mile for anyone who needed help,” said Roderick Williams, who worked alongside Mr. Ragbir for nearly 20 years.
Pedro Martinez, a department supervisor, experienced one of Mr. Ragbir’s random acts of kindness. One day, Martinez told Mr. Ragbir about his difficulties changing the headlights in his car.
“Garry said to me, ‘Go and get your car, and I’ll fix it during lunch break,’” Martinez said. “That’s the kind of person he was.”
In addition to his dedication to family and work, Mr. Ragbir, a native of Trinidad, loved camping and fishing. He also spent many summer afternoons caring for his vegetable garden, said his sister, Shirley Sumesar, who works in Central Transport.
Mr. Ragbir is survived by his wife, Leela Lutchmipersad, who works in BWH Medical Records; two daughters, Julieann and Sherryann; a son, Ryan; and a granddaughter, Leah Ruiz.
