Holiday wreaths on sale in the Cabot Atrium Dec. 4 and 5 will bring cheer to more than those who hang them on their doors and windows. All the proceeds from these handmade balsam wreaths benefit patients and families in the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center.
“The money helps patients and families handle ancillary costs, like parking, gas and lodging, that mount up very quickly when they come in for treatment every day,” said Sioux Gilli, practice administrator for Brigham Medical Specialties, whose late husband Edmund “Chic” Gilli was a cancer patient here in 2004.
Gilli learned firsthand how costly incidentals like food, coffee and transportation can be for the families of patients, and, after Chic’s death, she established the Blue Christmas Fund to help others cover such costs.
During Thanksgiving weekend, Gilli, her daughter and many friends and relatives will gather in her barn in New Ipswich, N.H., to wire boughs into beautiful 20-inch wreaths with a variety of bows.
Stop by the Cabot Atrium Dec. 4 and 5, 6 a.m. – 5 p.m., to purchase a wreath for $15. E-mail sgilli@partners.org for special orders. If you know a patient who could benefit from the Blue Christmas Fund, contact the Office of Patient and Family Assistance at DFCI.
