Clinicians, policy makers, advocates and others from all over the world will gather at month’s end in Boston with one goal: to eliminate surgical disparities.
During the second symposium on Disparities in Surgical Care Oct. 27 and 28, participants will build on the work of the first symposium in 2006 and seek to translate research into practice.
“We need to understand the nature of disparities in surgical care and set the agenda for implementing practice and policy changes to mitigate and eliminate disparities everywhere,” said Selwyn Rogers, MD, MPH, chief of the Division of Trauma, Burns and Surgical Critical Care and leader in the Center for Surgery and Public Health.
The course will address the role of academic medical centers in surgical delivery, issues of workforce development, impact of health care reform, importance of data collection of race/ethnicity and primary language, and community interventions.
“Please join us for this symposium, and help us to eliminate disparities in both access to surgical services and outcomes of surgical care,” said Rogers.
