When inpatients throughout the hospital turn on their televisions, they now have access to more regular channels, entertainment options and information about BWH at their fingertips.
This new television system went live on July 8, offering patients a free movie package of about 30 recently released movies, free games and three genres of music. The screens also display offerings at the Kessler Library, information about Social Work, Chaplaincy, Care Coordination and Interpreter Services, as well as campus maps, local hotels and more. Patients can make selections and control the televisions via the arrow buttons on new pillow speaker remote controls.
There is also a selection of general patient education videos available in the system. In addition, customizable patient education will be provided in the future. A team of nurses is in the process of updating this unique education option.
BWH has contracted with Lodgenet for television service and is working with PatientEdu, a developer of patient education software programs for health care providers, to become a pioneer of a new patient education system available through the television.
Piloting the new patient education system will begin shortly. A team of clinical experts has reviewed all the existing patient education content, and those videos that are still clinically current are available now. Much more new patient education content will become available as the PatientEdu system is rolled out over the course of this coming year.
