Hundreds of BWH employees celebrated their years of service last month, and James “J.T.” Stokes was no exception. The Brookside Community Health Center driver enjoyed a rally with colleagues in honor of his 35 years of dedication and service.
“J.T. is the soul of Brookside and constantly gives of himself,” said Paula McNichols, executive director of Brookside. “No task is too great, no request more than he can manage, and he constantly goes out of his way to get everyone, patients and staff alike, what they need.”
Since 1972, Stokes has been responsible to drive children to and from dental appointments, courier lab specimens and interoffice documents, transport pharmacy orders and drive elderly and handicapped patients between their homes and BWH.
The June 18 appreciation luncheon for 5- to 40-year service award honorees at Brookside and special rally for Stokes came on the heels of the Boston Celtics’ NBA championship victory the night before. Stokes, whom McNichols called “the greatest Celtics fan ever,” was thrilled to find all of his colleagues outfitted in green Celtics T-shirts in honor of his favorite team.
“J.T. is one of the most reliable and steadfast people I have ever had the privilege of knowing,” McNichols said. “We are so very fortunate to have him at Brookside.”
