Human Resources and Health Information Services (HIS) are just two of several BWH departments that moved into 75,000 square feet of brand new office space at 801 Massachusetts Ave., called Crosstown.
Administrative staff from BWH Finance, Dermatology, OB/GYN Finance, the Center for Community Health and Health Equities and BWH/BWPO Billing Compliance also moved to Crosstown, about two miles from Francis Street. Once construction is complete on the fifth floor this spring, Radiology administration will make the move to Crosstown, too. Anesthesia administration is there already in a temporary office.
“We love this new space. It’s bright, welcoming and we have plenty of space,” said Georgette Wilson, manager of inpatient scanning, transcription and birth registry in HIS. The new HIS space features a records review room with several work stations for internal and external auditors and researchers.
The building’s entrance includes a landscaped driveway with a turn-around off a side street. MASCO, LMA and Partners shuttles stop there at least every 30 minutes with travel routes to both ends of Francis Street, and HIS sends patient records back and forth to the main campus hourly on weekdays and as needed on weekends.
Each 25,000-square-foot floor is enveloped by large, sunlight-catching windows with enough room to accommodate 130 employees. In addition, there are kitchenettes on each floor where staff can refrigerate and prepare their lunches. And there are new conference rooms at Crosstown available for booking through BWHPikeNotes.org.
All of BWH HR, including training and recruiting, now comes together on the seventh floor, a move that fosters a team-building environment, said Syeda Soofia, a senior HR consultant.
“Our reception area is warmer and more welcoming to job candidates,” she added. Interviewees take advantage of one hour of free parking in the garage adjacent to the building, and the interview rooms have a cozier feel to them, as well. HR previously was housed in the Prudential Center downtown where parking presents significant challenges.
BWH and Partners committed to the Crosstown development at Mass. Ave and Melnea Cass Boulevard as an anchor tenant in this new facility. With Boston Medical Center taking space in the building adjacent to the main campus and the recent construction of a new hotel in the area, BWH is one of the early corporate residents in a growing and developing neighborhood.
“With the amount of new space available in the LMA so limited, Crosstown is a very attractive alternative for us,” said Arthur Mombourquette, BWH vice president of Support Services. “This gives us so much new space in one building that allows for easy transportation to our main campus.”
