Checking in with the Division of Diabetes and Metabolism
BWH's Division of Diabetes and Metabolism recently applied for and received American Diabetes Association (ADA) Education Recognition for the third consecutive time. This recognition is granted for three years and promotes quality education for people with diabetes by ensuring that organizations adhere to the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education.
“ADA Education Recognition lets the public know that our programs at BWH are comprehensive and of the highest quality,” said Rita McCarthy, RNC, CDE, diabetes nurse practitioner. “It recognizes our collective efforts to expand and refine the diabetes program here at BWH.”
The ADA specifically recognized two of the Division's outpatient education programs (one at 221 Longwood and one at 850 Boylston) and its Diabetes in Pregnancy program--a successful collaboration with Obstetrics, which is designated for women with pre-existing diabetes or gestational diabetes.
“These programs demonstrate our Division's commitment to diabetes patient education, while the ADA Recognition is a reflection of our commitment to providing quality care,” said Ronald Arky, MD, chief of the Division of Diabetes and Metabolism.
