Now is your chance to help the BWH Family History Project make history. Before the year-long project wraps up at month’s end, project staff are asking all employees to complete a five-minute survey about the U.S. Surgeon General’s “My Family Health Portrait” Web-based tool.
Employees—even those who have not used the tool—can fill out surveys and enjoy ice cream sundaes on Thursday, Nov. 9, from 3 to 5 p.m., and 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., in the Pod B Cafeteria. Surveys and information also are available at www.bwhpikenotes.org/familyhistoryproject/introduction.asp
The surveys ask employees if they have used the “My Family Health Portrait” tool, and, if so, whether it was user-friendly. This helps gauge participation in the project and identify ways to improve the tool. Since the 2005 launch of the Family History Project, project staff have assisted many employees in using the tool to compile their family health histories. Many of those employees chose to share that information with their primary care physicians in order to receive the best care possible.
At the end of the month, Family History Project staff will submit their data to the U.S. Surgeon General’s office. This data—which does not include personal family history information—will help the Surgeon General enhance the Web-based tool.
