BWH last month was named among the “Top 25 Connected Healthcare Facilities” by Health Imaging & IT magazine.
BWH was recognized for its broad and innovative use of computerized physician order entry with decision support, speech recognition and integration into the Longitudinal Medical Record and Emergency Department order entry. More than 90 percent of the hospital is filmless, with a 5 to 10 percent increase from last year in digital procedures performed.
“Part of BWH’s vision is to position itself as a leader in electronic imaging,” Radiology Chairman Steven Seltzer, MD, said. “This recognition is testament to the scope and modernity of the technology we use. Many people and departments deserve the credit for this honor, including Sue Schade (chief information officer), Dr. Ramin Khorasani (vice chair of Radiology) and Dr. Gary Gottlieb, whose leadership has allowed us to excel in electronic imaging.”
Health Imaging & IT analyzed more than 575 healthcare facilities and selected winners based on their use of digital imaging for medical procedures, including the percentage of procedures that are digital, number of departments that send and receive images from the Picture Archive Communication System (PACS) and ability of physicians and referring physicians to access electronic images.
