BWH’s career ladder initiative, Partners in Care, recently celebrated its first Patient Care Assistant (PCA) Program graduation, recognizing eight BWH participants who were promoted to PCAs. Initiated in March of this year, the PCA Training Program is a collaborative effort among the BWH Department of Nursing, Bunker Hill Community College and WorkSource Partners. The program seeks to help individuals progress along their career tracks in nursing, while increasing their wages and accomplishing their objectives. It also allows employees in various positions to get involved in activities related to education and career development, especially in the area of nursing.
“We saw an opportunity between the desire for staff to advance their careers at BWH and the need for PCAs, and we decided to implement this program, which has proven to be a success,” said Judy Hayes, director, Professional Practice Quality and Staff Development. Hayes worked closely with Luis Soto, senior manager, Environmental Services, to develop the program.
At the graduation, Soto acknowledged the graduates’ dedication and efforts, as well. “BWH has gained very skilled employees to help and assist on one of the most significant missions of this hospital—patient care,” said Soto. “Keep on going, we all wish you the best.”
