February Service Hero – Janet Cooper
A valued member of the NICU Support Staff for more than 26 years, Janet Cooper, unit service assistant, is truly one of the NICU’s unsung heroes and this month’s Service Hero.
Nominated by Sandra Harmon, assistant nurse manager, NICU, Cooper is described as someone with a big heart who takes extreme pride in her work. “Janet is a true team player and is excellent at coordinating tasks with her co-workers to ensure that the work is accomplished effectively and efficiently,” said Harmon.
Recent changes in the NICU care practices standards have elevated the role of NICU unit service assistants. “Janet handled the added responsibility masterfully and never lost sight of her commitment to the NICU patients.”
Cooper has exhibited an enthusiasm in obtaining cribs for the babies who have outgrown their incubators, thereby providing an opportunity for parents to bring in toys and equipment to personalize the baby’s space and help to provide the right amount of comfort and stimulation that an older baby needs. “Janet thinks nothing about walking over to Children’s Hospital to find and borrow just the right cribs,” said Harmon.
“The commitment exhibited by Janet and others provides our young patients with a clean, safe environment in which to grow stronger and healthier,” added Harmon.
