Building on BWH’s commitment to address the many ethical issues related to modern medicine, the hospital has created a Center for Bioethics to be developed over the next several years. Lisa Lehman, MD, PhD, will serve as director, providing strategic leadership and oversight of the center. Over time, the center will broaden its scope to include research and training programs initiated by BWH’s Clinical Ethics Service.
Lehman practices in the Division of Primary Care in BWH’s Department of Medicine and has established a well-recognized research program in bioethics. She has been a longstanding member of BWH’s Ethics Committee and has served on the Clinical Ethics Service.
BWH’s Clinical Ethics Service has become a vital resource to the BWH community in caring for patients and their families, assuring ethical conduct of research and providing education for employees and staff. BWH has gained from the support and guidance of Martha Jurchak, RN, PhD, who will assume the position of BWH Ethics Service director.
