The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation® awarded a $200,000 grant to the Health e-Technologies Initiative—a research program supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation® and directed and assisted by BWH—to study the role of technology and eHealth in preventing childhood obesity.
Two recent surveys documented the increasing use of wireless communication technologies among youths. “We believe there’s an opportunity to leverage that communication with health care providers for the purpose of obesity prevention,” David K. Ahern, PhD, director of the Health e-Technologies Initiative, said. “There’s also the potential for leveraging popular games for health care applications, such as ‘Dance Dance Revolution’ and videos that could aid in prevention efforts.”
