Abrams Directorship Established
Richard Baum, MD, recruited to BWH in January of this year as the division chief of Angiography/Interventional Radiology, was named the hospital’s first Herbert Abrams Director of Angiography and Interventional Radiology. Proceeds from a hospital-based endowment will fund the position, as well as academic activities of the Angio/Interventional Section of Radiology. Abrams, who served as chair of the Radiology Department from 1968 to 1984, was a pioneer in the clinical application of modern angiographic techniques.
“This is an investment that will ensure that Brigham and Women’s establishes its leadership position in the field of angiography and interventional radiology,” said Steven Seltzer, MD, chair, Radiology.
Baum is part of a new generation of interventional radiologists who are highly active in the clinical care of patients. They see patients in clinic, admit them to the hospital and collaborate with vascular surgeons and other vascular specialists, providing optimum care. Prior to coming to BWH, Baum was associate professor of Radiology and Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. There he pioneered the use of several new procedures.
A ceremony naming Baum the first Herbert Abrams Director of Angiography/Interventional Radiology was held at Harvard Medical School on August 1.
