Delroy Gordon of Operating Room/Clinical Support Services (OR/CSS) Materials Management was honored last month at the State House by State Rep. Shirley Owens-Hicks and House Speaker Sal DiMasi for his commitment to improving the lives of the Caribbean American community.
A native of Jamaica and resident of Dorchester, Gordon collected medical supplies and equipment for Grenada in the wake of Hurricane Ivan last year. As treasurer of the Caribbean American People's Action Committee, he is now working to mobilize the Caribbean American community to provide emergency funds for Hurricane Katrina victims. Gordon volunteers locally as vice president of Dorchester's Unity Sports and Cultural Club, secretary of the Massachusetts Caribbean Association and choir member at Greenwood Memorial United Methodist Church.
In his role as OR supply clerk, Gordon, a 34-year employee, finds an opportunity to serve OR patients and carry out the BWH mission. “I get personal fulfillment at the end of the day knowing I've positively contributed to someone's health,” said Gordon, who also was recognized by cardiac OR nurses at a reception.
Gordon's hard work, energy and kindness make him an inspiring member of the BWH family. “Delroy is fastidious in his duties and takes great pride in a job well done,” OR/CSS Materials Manager Barry O'Shaughnessy said.
