BWH participated in and served as a sponsor for “Ending Violence Against Women: Human Rights in Action,” which took place on December 10 at the JFK Library in Boston. The forum drew together hundreds of community members, health professionals, educators, human rights advocates, and public health leaders to share ideas, raise awareness, and build action networks to end violence against women.
BWH’s African Women’s Health Center, Connors Center for Women’s Health and Gender Biology, and Passageway domestic violence program joined MGH’s H.A.V.E.N. program in serving as some of the event’s many sponsors.
BWH’s Nawal Nour, MD, director of the African American Women’s Health Center, pictured above, spoke about her experience with patients who have been subject to the practice of female genital circumcision. She emphasized the importance of community education to bring about change.
