Clarise King
When patients come to BWH, Clarise King, nutrition assistant on 7AB, knows they may be anxious and frightened. To ease their transition, King does her part to provide a comfortable stay and make them feel at home. She knows that the best way to welcome a new patient to the floor, other than with a warm meal, is to deliver it with a cheery smile.
“She is extremely sweet and caring,” said Kelly Boyer, RD. “What makes Clarise a standout on our floor is the dedication she has to serving others. When one of our patients has a particular request or is in great need Clarise goes above and beyond to provide them with the necessary foods.”
“I have taken care of people my entire life,” said King, who as a child witnessed the importance of compassionate care when her mother was hospitalized for an entire year. “My goals are very simple. When I come to work, I try my best to be helpful, do what’s right and make people happy.”
King’s attitude about work and her values may seem simple on the surface, but require a great amount of energy and stamina to live up to. She rarely sits still and never forgets a face. When a patient requests a favorite food, she goes out of her way to prepare it for them. Some days this means racing around the cafeteria and kitchen to find specialties such as black olives. In one instance, it meant walking to work, despite blizzard conditions.
“I wish we could have a hundred or more employees just like Clarise,” said Ellie Argandona, RN.
But, even with just one of her, 7AB is managing to create a home sweet home for their patients.
