Recognizing Nursing at BWH
During her welcome address at the 2002 Mary S. Fay Enrichment Awards presentation on May 7, Ann Hurley, DNSc, FAAN, RN, nurse researcher and director, Center for Excellence in Nursing Practice, noted that with innovation similar to the pioneering spirit Florence Nightengale embodied more than 150 years ago, many nurses are taking big steps to make BWH an even better place. They are leading their colleagues on a journey into nursing – one that takes the best practices of today to create a brighter future for tomorrow.
Nurses, physicians, administrators and staff gathered during National Nursing Recognition Week to pay tribute to four special nurses, their innovative projects and their successful journeys. Honored during the presentation were Tansy Walker-Bois, RN and Barbara Wroblewski, MSN, MLIS, RN, the 2001 winners of the Mary S. Fay Enrichment Award. Lori Stevens, RN and Joan Eilers, RN, ADN, were honored as this year’s awardees.
The Mary S. Fay Enrichment Award recognizes the importance of compassionate nursing care care in the recovery and well-being of patients. Initiated by Yousuf and Estrellita Karsh, the award supports projects providing the opportunity for caregivers to observe how compassionate care is delivered in other environments. “As we celebrate the future of nursing at BWH, these individuals remind us that the spirit of this special award lies not only in exploration and discovery, but the challenge to bring back best practices to BWH,” said Hurley.
