Patients from across the region, country and globe continue to seek out the specialized services offered by the highly trained nurses and physicians at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Adding to BWH’s renowned service portfolio is our state-of-the-art ICU devoted solely to thoracic patients.
As the cover article reveals, the preparation and opening of 11C required the highest level of teamwork from all staff, especially nurses.
Nurses who committed to on-the-job training and those who completed the Critical Care Intern training before beginning their roles on 11C, will assure the successful operation of this essential unit. I would like to extend a special thanks to those BWH staff nurses, NICs and nurse managers who served as mentors throughout this transition and all other veteran nurses who went above and beyond their conventional roles to make the nurses’ transition onto 11C a smooth one.
As a nursing team, we remain proud of the achievements of our nursing staff. Nurses on 11C join in this proud tradition as they begin providing state-of-the art care to our thoracic patients, while adding a new dimension to the hospital.
I encourage you to visit 11C and other areas of the hospital to which you are not normally exposed. By doing so, you will again be reminded and amazed, as am I, of the breadth of nursing care available to the vast variety of patients we serve.
Sincerely,
Nancy Kruger, DNSc, RN
