Defining the Brigham Way
Friends of Katie Wickman, RN, joke that Brigham and Women’s Hospital should really be called “Brigham and Wickman’s Hospital,” since Wickman is the fourth member of her family to join the BWH Department of Nursing.
“I grew up knowing that there was nothing I would want to do more,” she says.
Wickman is forming her legacy as a clinical staff nurse on Tower 14C, caring for patients and their families and making each one feel known and cared for as individuals.
“Her willingness to give of herself with no hesitation, her striving to ensure that her patients are doing well, her constant vigil over all her patients, her commitment to detail and her compassionate caring blew me away,” says Steven Kyriakidis, BWH Public Space Coordinator, who was also a BWH patient cared for by Wickman.
For these reasons, Wickman is one of the faces of The Brigham Way, a new campaign appearing on the TV screens around the BWH campus.
The Brigham Way is defined by the staff at BWH. It recognizes the many ways that staff in departments throughout the hospital go above and beyond to make the Brigham an even better place to work, visit and receive care. That may mean helping patients to feel comfortable, working together as a team with colleagues or going above and beyond to keep the hospital safe and clean.
The Brigham Way is also about how staff at Brigham and Women’s Hospital put their own touches on customer service and teamwork.
Staff who exemplify the Brigham Way are featured on the television screens around the distributed campus and on BWHPikeNotes.org. Submit your Brigham Way or nominate a colleague by emailing TheBrighamWay@partners.org. Visit BWHPikeNotes.org for a Brigham Way video and slideshow.
