Espindle Named Foxborough DSU Nurse Manager
Leanne Espindle, MSN, RN, was appointed nurse manager of the Day Surgery Unit at Brigham and Women’s/Mass General Health Care Center at Foxborough in October.
As nurse manager, Espindle will work closely with Anesthesia and Surgery clinical leaders at the health care center to ensure that patients in the Day Surgery Unit receive the same level of quality and safe care that is delivered at BWH and MGH.
Espindle, who previously was nurse program manager for the Center for Reproductive Medicine, will lead a staff of about 30, including 14 nurses, scrub technologists, Central Processing Department staff, secretarial staff and materials management staff.
“I’m very excited about this new position,” said Espindle. “We are bringing access to BWH care to an area of the state that didn’t have it before.”
Espindle is in the process of hiring staff for the Day Surgery Unit, which encompasses four operating rooms and a 16-bed pre/post operative area. She expects the start date for new staff will be Jan. 5. “The first OR case is scheduled for Feb. 2, so our team will spend a month getting familiar with the building and equipment and focusing on team-building,” she said.
Espindle joined BWH as a newly-licensed nurse in 1986 in the Gynecologic Oncology/MedSurg unit before joining the OR team for 10 years. She also has served as a perioperative clinical nurse specialist at MGH and then assistant nurse manager of the BWH OR.
“In the past year, I’ve had very valuable experience in ambulatory nursing,” Espindle said. “I’m excited for the opportunity to combine this with my OR experience in the Day Surgery Unit at Foxborough.”
Espindle earned her MSN from Salem State College and her BSN from the University of Lowell.
