Committee Updates
Standards, Policy and Procedure Committee
The Standards, Policy and Procedure Committee continues to review policies, identifying those that need to be created as well as how to make all policies more easily accessible. The new search engine function is meant to be more user-friendly. The refined function allows nurses to locate a policy in the search window as well as alphabetically and in section searches.
Policies recently approved that are applicable to general practice include “Guidelines for the Care of the STEMI (ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction) Patient” and the new “Chest Tube Dressing Policy.”
Try the new search engine function to review these policies. Contact your educator or any committee member with questions.
Informatics and Clinical Innovations Committee
The Informatics and Clinical Innovations Committee’s primary work is “to advocate for practice to drive technology thereby supporting or enhancing the nurse’s role in caring for patients while promoting patient care and safety.” Comprised of nurses in roles throughout the hospital, the committee continues to provide consultation to the Electronic Medication Management Steering Committee, the eMAR decision making group, regarding enhancements to the current application and the design of the oncology eMAR application.
In the past few months, this committee has conducted documentation workflow analysis in preparation for the Acute Care Documentation (ACD) project, provided feedback regarding the clinical scenarios for use in the Nursing Simulation Center, participated in a focus group to help the ACD Steering Committee prepare for the BWH hardware fair held in March, validated the next version of the Alaris Drug Library to be released in late spring and collaborated with the Pharmacy Department regarding a new process for preparation of pre mixed insulin bags to pilot in the early summer.
