Gottlieb, Seltzer Announce BWPO Transition
With the departure of Troy Brennan, BWPO president and CEO, BWPO Chairman Steven Seltzer and BWH President and CEO Gary Gottlieb announced plans to review the PO's strategic plan and the job description for Brennan's successor. (See Dr. Seltzer's letter on page 2.)
Until a new PO president and CEO is named and on board, the PO's leadership responsibilities have been segmented among many hospital chiefs and administrative leaders.Â
BWPO CFO Bill Johnston and BWPO Chief Medical Officer Allen Smith will continue their responsibilities for the management of PO Business Operations and Finance with support from Seltzer as chairman who will preside over PO Board and Executive Committee meetings and attend Compensation Committee meetings. Additionally, there will be an increased level of commitment by departmental administrators and committee members.
Smith and Johnston will continue to have primary responsibilities for Contracting, Contract and Medical Management, Human Resource Management and Information Systems, and they will interface with hospital administrative leaders to coordinate the PO's efforts with the hospital.
Surgery Chairman Michael Zinner will accompany Gottlieb to the PHS Operating Heads meeting and represent the BWPO.
Smith and John Fernandez, BWH vice president of Surgical Services, will be responsible for executing the BWH/BWPO's Network Development strategy, as the Network Development Group Brennan had organized will continue to meet monthly.
Craig Williams, department administrator for Neurology and Neurosurgery, already has committed time to help the PO implement the Improved Patient Experience, and he will work with Sharon Vitti, BWH's newly appointed vice president for Clinical Services.
Smith will continue to work with the PO's Physician Council on quality of work life issues, volunteerism and physician leadership development.
