Báez Inducted into Dominican Academy of Medicine
Amado Alejandro Báez, MD, MPH, EMT-P, BWH’s associate director of Emergency Medical Services, in December became the youngest member ever to be inducted into the Dominican Academy of Medicine, the most reputable medical institution in the Dominican Republic. He also is the only emergency medicine physician in the academy’s history.
“This is a great honor for Dr. Báez as a recognition of his tireless efforts to advance emergency and critical care in the Dominican Republic,” said Ron M. Walls, MD, chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine.
Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, Báez for more than a decade has been active with numerous national and international organizations, working on strengthening the prehospital and emergency medicine infrastructure in Latin America. He has received multiple accolades, including the inaugural American Medical Association’s Paul Ambrose Public Health Leadership Award.
A faculty member with the Division of International Health and Humanitarian Programs, Báez joined BWH in 2005 for a fellowship in Critical Care in the Division of Trauma, Burns and Surgical Critical Care. Prior to that, he completed his Emergency Medicine residency at the Mayo Clinic.
