BWH Pike Notes Launched
BWH unveiled its first intranet site for information on hospital events. The new intranet site is updated daily and includes the most recent issues of Bulletin and Professional Staff Update, as well as links to benefit, training, and Perks program information. The site is accessible at http://healthcare.partners.org/ bwhintranet. The site also features information on current research studies and hospital statistics, as well as a feedback area where employees can submit confidential comments or Town Meeting questions. Once Pike Notes is accessed by the user for the first time, it can be saved on a computer as a favorite file. By dragging the file over to the welcome screen, an icon will be created to allow for instant access in the future.
Thomson Leadership Award
Maria Damiano, administrator of the CDIC, became the first recipient of the Thomson Leadership Award on January 20. The award was created to reinforce the characteristics of leadership embraced by the late Dennis Thomson, former vice president of Public Affairs at BWH. It recognizes an outstanding leader at BWH on an annual basis. Nominations reflecting an individualĂs key qualities of leadership such as character, competency, composure, commitment, courage, and care for people were submitted this fall and reviewed by a steering committee. Damiano was nominated by Matt Van Vranken, chief operating officer.
Dennis Thomson came to BWH in 1991 as director of Public Affairs and was later promoted to vice president. He served in that capacity until his death in November 1998 at the age of 49. During the award presentation, Damiano joined Van Vranken to unveil a plaque that now hangs just outside the Bornstein Amphitheater.
