Gillian Reny
Voting recently opened for the Stepping Strong Innovator Awards, a first annual competition inspired by Gillian Reny, a student and aspiring dancer, who nearly lost her life when she was injured by the bombings at the 2013 Boston Marathon. Forever grateful to the BWH team that saved her life and put her on the road to recovery, Gillian and her family launched the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Fund in February 2014.
The Innovator Awards will inspire and fund research addressing well-defined clinical problems in areas related to regeneration, limb transplant, advanced stem cell technology, orthopedic and plastic surgery, bioengineering, rehabilitation and other areas related to trauma care at BWH. The winner will receive a $100,000 grant to advance trauma research and care at BWH.
Following a competitive review by a medical and scientific panel of experts, three finalists were identified for voting consideration: Indranil Sinha, MD, E.J. Caterson, MD, PhD, and Matthew Carty, MD, all of the Division of Plastic Surgery in BWH's Department of Surgery.
Until Research Day on Nov. 20, you can vote to decide who will be awarded the grant. Read the Q&As on these pages for a more in-depth look at the finalists' research, and then visit BWHgiving.org/innovators to view a video and cast your vote!
