BWH and Tower 11A mourn the loss of unit coordinator Mary Duffy, who worked at the hospital for 35 years. She died on June 3.

Ms. Duffy's longtime manager, Joyce Thomas-Browning, said she was part of the fabric of the unit, which ran beautifully with her support. She also described Ms. Duffy as caring, hard-working, reliable and meticulous.
"Mary took pride in her work as a unit coordinator and loved her job," said Thomas-Browning. "She was family. I will miss her tremendously, as we shared many stories over the years. Tower 11A will continue to provide excellent care for patients and families, honoring Mary's legacy."
Ms. Duffy moved to the U.S. from Ireland in 1962. Her first job in the U.S. was working for the Robert Breck Brigham Hospital. She later joined the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and eventually, BWH. She lived in West Roxbury.
Ms. Duffy enjoyed traveling to visit family every year in Ireland. She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Hutchings; son, Sean Duffy; eight brothers and sisters; many nephews and nieces, including Maureen Tapper, a BWH staff nurse on Tower 11ABD/12B; four grandchildren and other family members and friends. Services were held earlier this week.
"Mary was like a mother to many of those who worked on the 11th floor," said niece Tapper. "She gave many new nurses courage and strength. She protected, loved and mentored all those who worked with her. All will miss her dearly."
