Marcel Fenelon knows that giving to United Way has a lasting and positive impact on families and children in need across Boston.
“I donate to the United Way because it’s important to help people any way you can,” said Fenelon, a patient care assistant on Tower 14CD. “You don’t have to give a lot; you just have to give something to help.”
This year’s campaign theme was “More than Giving. Changing,” and more than 1,000 BWHers from the main and distributed campuses contributed this November to help improve the lives of thousands of people in our local community and beyond.
When Fenelon made his donation, he had no idea that he would be the lucky grand prize winner of airfare for two anywhere in the continental U.S.
There were also dozens of other raffle winners for prizes including gift cards, parking passes, a mountain bike and a flat screen TV.
“This year, we raised nearly $169,000 during our three-week campaign,” said Ed Habermehl, administrative director for the divisions of Cardiac Surgery and Vascular Surgery.
Added Jackie Somerville, PhD, RN, chief nursing officer and senior vice president of Patient Care Services: “BWH has a long-standing tradition of supporting United Way. Over the many years that we have partnered with the United Way, BWHers have collectively contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars for community programs supported by United Way.”
